Engraved Glass Awards - Beautiful Works Of Art
Engraved awards are beautiful works of art designed to awe, inspire, and reward both competitors and employees of their outstanding achievements. Engraved glass awards are not the only option - acrylic and wood plaques adorned with engraved brass plates are also elegant options for awards both small or prestigious.
Laser engraving is a common way to etch a name onto both acrylic and metal surfaces. High intensity light from a computer-controlled laser heats the surface of the material so strongly that it burns away, leaving a rough "frosted" surface. By controlling the laser by computer, any shape or name can be engraved onto a wide variety of awards with ease. This is useful for high-volume award production with many different names because the laser tracer can be reprogrammed very quickly.
Before laser technology was mature enough, most metal and wood plate engraving was done by physically machining the letters into the material. This is still done today; however, these machines are now controlled by computers. Before computers, the bit of the routing machine would move in accordance with a long arm. A worker would trace the letters or graphic on a sheet of paper with the arm and the machine would make corresponding movements to engrave the plaque.
With the development of new polymer technology, acrylic encasement is becoming a popular award choice. Objects such as coins and engraved metal plaques can be set into a block of machined and polished acrylic plastic. This process allows for commemorative items to be permanently sealed in crystal-clear and very attractive trophies. These acrylic pieces are often affixed to stained wooden bases, but can be freestanding. Since acrylic is relatively soft when compared to metal or glass, it can easily be shaped into a variety of custom shapes to reflect the nature of the achievement. Acrylic also offers the ability to be dyed different colors.
Blown glass awards are fragile but very beautiful. Due to their high cost and individuality, they are most often used to commemorate a single exceptionally outstanding achievement. They usually consist of an artful piece of multicolored hand-blown glass mounted to a base for stability. The glass can be engraved with names, dates, and logos with a laser. Engraved glass awards can be more expensive than an acrylic award, but the glass is a harder, more scratch-resistant material and will last much longer with repeated dusting.
