Laser Welding: Fast, Eficient, Clean.

Laser welding machines are used to join pieces of metal through the use of concentrated light beams, rather than the more conventional electric arc. Laser energy has been used for high technology metal cutting for years and using it for welding is a natural extension of this method. Indeed, nearly every laser welder is also a laser cutter.

The highly focused heat afforded by the laser allows for narrow but deep welds and high welding speed. Laser welding machines are commonly used in applications that involve a large volume of product, such as mass production of cars. Laser welding is also useful in applications where very small, neat welds are needed, such as in small diameter metal tubing, jewellry, and the aircraft industry. The laser beam used may be either continuous or pulsed. Pulses milliseconds in length are used for welding very thin metal, while continuous beams are used for deeper welds. Laser welding is versatile, and can be used on carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or titanium. Because the welds cool so quickly, cracking can be a concern with carbon steel, and steps must sometimes be taken to prevent his.

Laser beam welding is useful for applications similar those for which electron beam welding is used, but laser welding offers the following advantages: Lasers can be used in air and do not require a vacuum, laser welding produces better quality welds, and laser welding does not emit harmful X-rays which requires lead shielding for workers.

Laser welding is easily automated through use of computer and robotic technology, and indeed, laser welding machines are usually are robotic, as they tend to be used in applications requiring mass production, repetitive movements, and absolute precision, things to which robots are far better suited to than humans. But even though humans will usually be acting as supervisors to the machines rather than doing the actual welding, eye protection for all persons in the vicinity of laser welding machines are a must. Laser safety glasses are pricey, averaging around $200, but the eyesight of workers is priceless.

Unfortunately, laser welding machines are currently far too costly for most individual's home shop. Typical prices for systems start at $20,000 and only climb from there.

Its my first time to read about this Laser Welding machine. Is it really safe to use?Im confused because I am planning to buy. The price is more higher compared to a normal welding machine but I think this is much better because It uses laser. The customers will also like if they knew our welding shop uses laser welding machine.
