The Nameplate Engraving Machine
Engraving one’s name, or any design, onto a hard material used to be a difficult and complicated process. Much of the time it was done by hand or with archaic sculpturing techniques that were both time consuming and mistake prone. This has all changed with the invention of the nameplate engraving machine.
The modern, industrial-use name plate engraving machine employs a laser and a complex guiding mechanism to very quickly produce a precise, clean engraving on any surface. Other machines employ tool bits that may quickly wear out and have to be replaced regularly, but the use of laser technology eliminates this hassle.
There are 2 main parts to a laser engraving machine, the laser, and the controller. The laser is used like a pen to write on the chosen surface, whether to engrave the happy couples’ names on their wedding rings, the company’s logo on its paperweight, or even a wordy plaque of appreciation for a sponsor. The controller is usually computer based and tells the laser which direction to go, at what speed, as well as how hard and how wide the beam should be. This process is generally software activated, with the name or design entered into a program, tweaked as needed, and then automatically transferred into the memory of the controller, which uses the laser to mark the surface accordingly. This way, the same name or pattern can be repeated as many times as needed—the company can make paperweights with its logo for everyone in the office, or a whole set of plaques with an engraving of the dignified sponsor, copied directly from a photo, on each one.
The laser-based nameplate engraving machine works by delivering highly focused energy to a specific point on the desired surface. This either heats up the point at which the laser touches, causing the material there to vaporize, or fractures the material there, causing it to flake off. Either way, due to the efficiency of the laser’s ability to convert light energy into heat, an elaborate cooling system or a pulsed laser beam is in most cases needed to prevent excessive heating.
Many men enjoy having their name engraved on certain key objects around the home or office, and the nameplate engraving machine is perfect for this purpose. Vytek provides one of the most precise and easy to use laser systems with rotary attachments for jewelry or fine art. Putting one’s name on one’s stuff where it belongs has never been easier.
